MATTHEWS, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - The Matthews Police Department is excited to announce the newest member of their family.
Benny, a 15-month old Labrador from Slovakia, officially started his career on Wednesday, March 20. Matthews Police said he is certified by the United Police Work Dog Association and will be utilized as a single purpose narcotics detection dog.
Benny had two narcotics arrests under his belt within his first few days on the job! He will be partnered with Officer Kevin Osuch of the E-Squad within the Patrol Division. Officer Osuch has been with Matthews Police since 2000 and has been an Officer in the K-9 program since 2005.
“We are thrilled to have Benny as part of the team and as he’s already shown us, he’s ready to go to work," Chief Clark A. Pennington said.
