CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - UPDATE: Charges against Phillip Devore have been dismissed due to insuffiient evidence, according to the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Office.
A Mecklenburg County detention officer was arrested for assaulting a woman, according to the sheriff's office.
Officer Phillip DeVore was charged with assault on a female on Thursday, Sheriff gary McFadden said.
Devore was fired on Thursday after warrants were issued for his arrest. He began working with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office in June 2017
"We are deeply disappointed in the conduct of one of our staff members. As a public safety organization, the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office requires all employees to demonstrate professional and ethical conduct both on and off-duty," the sheriff's office said in a statement.
