Police: Man killed in two-vehicle wreck in northwest Charlotte

- A man was killed in a two-vehicle crash early Monday morning in northwest Charlotte, police said.

The wreck happened at 6:38 a.m. Monday, Feb. 19 along the 500 block of Little Rock Road near Freedom Drive.

Upon arrival, CMPD officers and Charlotte Fire located a 1995 Acura and a 2010 Honda SUV in the roadway. Medic arrived on scene and pronounced Jesse Vernon Wells, 27, dead on scene at 6:47 a.m.

The driver of the Honda, Tanya Clawson, 43, and her 16-year-old passenger were transported to CMC-Huntersville with minor injuries.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the Acura, driven by Wells, was traveling northeast on Little Rock Road towards Freedom Drive. As the Acura entered a curved section of the roadway, it began to travel off the roadway to the left striking a raised curb multiple times.

At a known point, the Acura traveled onto the raised curb and into a center median. As the Acura traveled through the center median it began to rotate clockwise and it re-entered the roadway on Little Rock in the southwest lanes of travel, police said.

As the Acura entered the roadway it was struck in the driver’s door area by the 2010 Honda being operated by Clawson. The Honda was traveling in the left hand lane of travel headed southwest.

After the crash, both vehicles came to a final resting position to the right of the roadway, police said.

At this time it is unknown if speed is a factor. Alcohol or drug use is not a factor for the Honda but it is unknown at this time for the Acura. Both drivers and the passenger were wearing seatbelts.

This crash remains under investigation.
