Metro School to close Friday after several students, teachers show signs of Norovirus

Charlotte-Mechlenburg Schools announced Thursday Metro School will be closed for students Friday, Feb. 26 after several students and teachers showed symptoms that point to a norovirus outbreak.

Officials said the student makeup day will be June 10.

On Wednesday, CMS sent home a letter from the Mecklenburg County Health Department to inform the public of several students and teachers who exhibited symptoms suggestive of norovirus.

CMS said they've been working collaboratively with Metro School and the Health Department. There are no confirmed cases at this time, they said.

CMS said they brought in a qualified professional contractor Wednesday to thoroughly clean and disinfect the entire school and all buses in accordance with the Health Department guidelines.

They said as an additional proactive measure, the school will close Friday to allow an additional thorough cleansing.

The Metro School is in Uptown's second ward neighborhood.

Metro School has about 250 students, from ages 3-22, who have large medical and physical issues.
