UNION COUNTY, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - A hearing scheduled Tuesday In Union County for a mother charged in the death of her 1-year-old son has been postponed and pushed to another date.
Authorities said Dazia Lee drove her car around barricades during Hurricane Florence, only to get trapped and see her child get swept away in flood waters.
Lee is now facing two charges related to her son's tragic death: involuntary manslaughter and a misdemeanor for driving on a closed highway.
Since her son's untimely death, the mother has surrounded herself with family and friends to support her during this time. Back in September, when Hurricane Florence struck, she was driving with her 1-year-old son, Kaiden, in the car. The vehicle was swept up in the flood waters and he died.
FOX 46 Charlotte has spoke with the mother a few times since the incident and she said her baby's passing hurts her to her core.
First responders said the mother drove around the barricades on Highway 218, leading her car straight into rushing water.
Dazia Lee has said from the start that those barricades weren't clearly blocking off the road.
