Mooresville man accused of hitting, choking woman over 'business matter'

- A Mooresville man is facing multiple charges after he reportedly hit and choked a woman over a business matter, according to the Iredell County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies were call to a home around 12:15 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 2 along Honeysuckle Creek Loop in Mooresville in reference to a domestic dispute.

The victim, a woman who was at a neighbor's house, told deputies John Marcus Lancaster, 53, became angry with her about a business matter. She went on to say that Lancaster became verbally abusive before hitting her with a closed fist several times in the head, and then choking her.

She said at some point during the attack, Lancaster took her cell phone to stop her from calling for help. Deputies noticed clearly visible marks on the victim's neck.

They went over to Lancaster's residence to speak with him and to tell him he was under arrest for the attack. Lancaster reportedly slammed the door on the deputies and remained inside for about five to 10 minutes before surrendering.

Lancaster is charged with felony assault by strangulation, misdemeanor assault on a female, misdemeanor interfere with emergency communications and misdemeanor resisting a public officer.

Lancaster is being held without bond.
