STATESVILLE, NC (WJZY) - A man accused of felony sex crimes is caught recording video at a kid's park while out on bond. If you think he's behind bars - guess again.
Even the local Sheriff thought the man was in jail until FOX 46 Charlotte brought to his attention what the judge is calling "a loophole."
FOX 46 Charlotte is taking action for Iredell County where 69-year-old Larry Rudisill has parents scared for the safety of their children.
"Most people would've used common sense and stayed out of the park. It seems like he didn't have any regard for what the court ordered him to do," Captain Julie Gibson said.
Captain Gibson is with the Sheriff's Office. She told FOX 46 Charlotte Rudisill is facing 17 felony charges including sex offense with a minor and indecent liberties with a minor.
While out on bond he was seen with a recording device at the Statesville Park and Soccer Complex. It's an area where hundreds of kids play and parents fear he's recording their children.
Rudisill's bond specified he could not go there with a recording device on his "person." So he apparently juked the system and showed up with one attached to his moped.
"It's scary to think of someone out here with our kids."
The judge told FOX 46 Charlotte because of this technicality Rudisill is back home - again.
It's a home with cameras at his front door and cameras in his windows. His neighbors are just as scared he's recording the kids in the neighborhood.
"I just wish they'd get rid of him. Put him in jail, have his trial and get it over with and get him away from here. We have children in this community," one neighbor said.
It's the same feeling for some at the Sheriff's Office.
"We're all working towards the same goal but sometimes it's not the same end, and it's frustrating when you arrest someone and then they're released," Captain Gibson said.
On Tuesday, FOX 46 Charlotte got results. Judge Julia Guillett said Rudisill's bond has now been changed to keep him away from any park in the area.
