IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - The North Carolina Department of Transportation will be widening the roads where I-77 and I-40 meet in Iredell County.
NCDOT has awarded a $260.3 million contract to Lane Construction Corp. out of Connecticut to build out the 7.4 miles of highway from four lanes to eight.
The bridges over I-77 at East Broad Street and Davie Avenue will also be replaced.
Lane Construction can begin work in non-permitted areas in the spring of 2019, with the project gearing up next fall. Officials estimate the work will be completed by the end of 2022.
