The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has charged the mother of two children who were abandoned at two separate CMPD offices Thursday.
Nazarene Porter, 19, is charged with two counts of misdemeanor child abuse/neglect. She was then transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
Police said the children have been identified and are in foster care.
On Thursday, May 12, 2016 both children were left unattended near two separate CMPD stations.
A 4-month-old boy was left outside the CMPD Westover Division 2550 West Blvd. in a car seat. Officers responded to a call for a crying infant just before 7:30 a.m. Thursday. A 2-year-old girl was left in front of the 600 block of E. Trade Street at a bus stop next to CMPD headquarters in Uptown Charlotte around 9:30 p.m. Thursday.
Both children were transported to CMC Main as a precaution, where they were evaluated and found to be in good health.
The Department of Social Services was contacted in assisting with the placement of the children, while police searched for family, according to CMPD.
A CMPD source tells FOX 46 Charlotte the children are brother and sister.
