UNION COUNTY, NC (FOX 46) - Multiple dogs and cats died in a house fire Wednesday in Indian Trail, according to the Union County Fire Marshal.
The fire happened at 10:13 a.m. Wednesday, November 9 at a home located at 7007 Secrest Short Cut in Indian Trail.
The fire marshal told FOX 46 Charlotte there were two people inside the house, a husband and wife. They said the woman sustained first-degree burns to her face and inhaled some smoke. Her husband is with her at CMC-Main where she is receiving treatment, officials say.
Crews said the fire started in the bedroom area of the house.
The fire has been ruled as an accident - but the exact cause is still undetermined. Investigators said they're having a problem pinpointing the cause due to all the damage.
According to fire officials, there were a lot of pets on the property and several dogs and cats died in the fire. Officials said the animals appeared to be well cared for.
The house sustained $40,000 in estimated damages. The Red Cross is assisting the family.
