NCDOT, Concord Mills partner on new project to ease traffic congestion

- Drivers, how many of you want a faster route to Concord Mills?

Mall officials and the North Carolina Department of Transportation are working together on a project that is expected to improve a driver’s experience getting there.

Access to the mall is predicted to improve because of a two-lane flyover bridge that’s in the works.

It will connect from Interstate 85 at Concord Mills Boulevard to Kings Grant Pavilion, which is the first main entrance to the mall. Officials said the bridge will replace the current left turn lanes at the intersection, allowing drivers direct access to the facility directly off the interstate.

It is expected to relieve congestion on Concord Mills Boulevard which is home to several other retail centers.

The $10.2 million project, funded by the state, is scheduled to start construction on May 1 and wrap up in June of 2020.

Drivers told FOX 46 Charlotte that this will be an improvement to the current traffic situation entering and exiting the mall.

“So much traffic coming in and out, it’s very hazardous, this will really help us out,” a driver said.
