NCDOT Employees Save Child Riding Bike on Interstate

A 12-year-old boy is safe after NCDOT employees saw the child riding his bike on I-77 South, a busy Charlotte interstate.

The boy had run away from home and was riding his bike on I-77, to the ramp down to I-85 North, according to NCDOT. A Safety Patrol Driver spotted the kid from the other side of I-77, and called in for backup.

Employees saw the boy on his bike on traffic cameras, and sent driver Ron Pharr to rescue him. Pharr said he saw one tractor trailer barely miss the boy. Once it passed, he was able to rescue the child.

Emergency responders helped get the boy back to his caregivers.
