New principal named at Independence High School

- The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education approved the appointment of David L. Legrand as principal of Independence High School at its Tuesday, May 24 meeting.

Officials said Legrand has been working as a human resources talent acquisition manager for CMS since 2013. He was a principal at Irwin Academic Center from 2009-2013 and an assistant principal at Ranson and Carmel middle schools from 2004-2009.

Legrand also taught in Guilford County Schools and Union County Public Schools from 1997-2002.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in arts economics from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a master’s degree in school administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
