New skate park to open in Charlotte's Plaza Midwood neighborhood

- Charlotte is getting a new skate park, run by rollerbladers, but also open to skateboarders, scooter riders and BMX riders.

“We created a space where we’re going to help you be a better skater but more than that, we’re going to help you be a good person,” co-founder Phillip Gripper said.

OSO Skate Park is opening at 933 Louise Ave. Suite 109 in Plaza Midwood.

“It’s somewhere where you can go to feel safe and not be out of your element,” co-founder Brett Coppedge said.

The crew at OSO said it will be hosting a number of different charitable events to give back to the community.

“We’re going to donate half the proceeds if not full proceeds to the children’s hospital,” Gripper said. “Call it, ‘Grind for Levine.’”

Daily rates are $15 per day, $12 per two hours and $7 per hour. Monthly and annual memberships are also sold.
