Southpark Mall evacuated due to suspicious package

- UPDATE:   Police say they located the owner of the package, which was a cooler that contained a cooking pot. The owner stated they placed the cooler outside of the store so they could shop in the mall.


Southpark Mall was evacuated Saturday evening due to reports of a suspicious package in the area of Nordstrom's Department Store, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police. 

CMPD's Bomb Squad along with the Charlotte Fire Dept. Hazmat Team also responded to the mall.

The bomb squad used a robot to conduct a render safe procedure on the package, which authorities said would cause a loud noise in the area. The procedure was succesful and now officers are investigating the contents of the package and determining how it got outside of the mall.
