NORWOOD, NC - The Norwood Mayor, fire department officials and firefighters abruptly announced their resignations Monday night at a town council meeting, according to the town administrator.
The Norwood Town Council wanted to get rid of the town's fire department and bring in fire services with the Center Rural Volunteer Fire Department, according to sources.
Johnson announced her resignation after the fire department officials.
The town administrator said Johnson believed the resignations were due to campaign agendas that included cutting taxes at whatever costs,.
Around 15 firefighters from the Norwood Fire Department resigned, including a chief, two assistant chiefs, two captains and one lieutenant, according to the town administrator.
In a 3-2 split vote led by Linda Campbell, John Mullis and Steve Bradley, the Council accepted Johnson's resignation as well.
