Child grazed by shrapnel after off-duty deputy's gun accidentally discharges at bowling alley

- An off-duty Iredell County Sheriff's deputy accidentally discharged a gun at George Pappas Victory Lanes in Mooresville, police said.

Initial reports suggest a fragment of a bullet hit a 10-year-old child after the bullet hit the floor, according to Mooresville police. The Iredell County Sheriff's Office confirmed that a child was grazed by a piece of shrapnel, but did not sustain serious injury.

Police said no one was seriously injured and no one was transported by EMS.

The bowling alley, located on Morlake Drive, was closed as authorities investigate.

Iredell County Sheriff's Office is conducting an internal investigation. Mooresville Police is handling the investigation of the accidental discharge incident.

The deputy involved has been placed on leave until the outcome of oth investigations are completed, according to the sheriff's office.
