HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Authorities say an off-duty police officer in North Carolina drove while drunk, wrecked his car and then fled the scene.
News outlets report that state troopers arrested Andy Massey early Saturday, after finding a car registered to him wrecked in a ditch. Massey has been with the Hendersonville police department since 2012.
City of Hendersonville spokeswoman Allison Nock says the wrecked vehicle was not Massey’s patrol car. He’s been place on paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation.
Massey is charged with driving while impaired and hit-and-run. Nock couldn’t say whether police believe Massey hit anything or anyone before crashing into the ditch.
Reports didn’t include comment from Massey or a representative.
