Police: East Charlotte shooting, assault likely related

- One person was shot and another was assaulted in east Charlotte Monday night. Police say the two incidents appear to be related.

Just before 9:00 p.m., a man was shot while he was standing outside of a home in the 7600 block of Holly Grove Court. He was transported to CMC- Main by Medic for treatment and  is now in stable condition.

Two parked cars and three homes in the area were hit by bullets. Two of the homes were occupied, but no one was injured.

Police say it appears that the victim was not the intended target, but is a friend of the person the suspect(s) were shooting at, and based on their initial investigation at the scene, detectives believe the suspects and the intended victim know each other.

The suspects fled the scene in a car. Shortly after the shooting, an assault occurred in the 2600 block of Milton Road. The 911 call came in at 9:11 p.m.

Officers say a man was pistol-whipped by an armed suspect. The victim was left with non-life threatening injuries.

Police are still investigating. No other information is available at this time.
