GASTON COUNTY, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - A Gaston County man has been arrested on animal cruelty charges after his dog was found to be malnourished and suffering from open wounds.
According to Gaston County police, officers received a call on July 9 from a concerned citizen about the treatment of their neighbor's dog.
Officers say they found the dog, "Nova," suffering from wounds on its head and along the spine when they were called to the 200 block of Bethany Road in Gastonia. The wounds were in various states of healing, from scars to open wounds showing the animals bone structure.
Nova's owner, Chris Brandon Taylor, was arrested August 7 and charged with felony animal cruelty and misdemeanor animal cruelty. Police say the felony charges stems from a maiming injury Nova received while in Taylor's care. He also failed to provide adequate food, water, and shelter for the dog.
Nova is currently finishing rehabilitation and will be going to a rescue group that can continue care for her.
Taylor, who voluntarily signed over custody of Nova to Animal Care Enforcement, was released under $7,500 bond.
