Panthers help pay for new West Charlotte HS football field

- West Charlotte High School can thank the Carolina Panthers and many others for it's new football field and athletic track.

A ribbon cutting celebration was held at the school Wednesday night to show off what a partnership between the Panthers, ESPN, Lowe's and CMS made possible.

"The Carolina Panthers are pleased to assist Mecklenburg County, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and Project L.I.F.T. in providing new resources that will serve both West Charlotte High School and the broader community," said Riley Fields, Carolina Panthers director of community relations.

The Panthers jump-started the $2 million project by donating $200,000.

The school is thrilled saying the new field will provide a safe and more durable playing surface for their athletes.

"West Charlotte High School is thankful for this contribution, said Dr. Timisha Barnes-Jones, Principal of West Charlotte High School. "It models for our students the power of collaboration and partnerships. The new track and field helps to restore a sense of pride in our students and in the community."
