CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46) - Thanksgiving is a holiday that hits home for Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis.
"Thanksgiving was always a time that my family came together and everyone had an opportunity to just see each other again and just sit down and enjoy a meal as a family," Davis said.
That's why Davis, his wife Kelly, his Panthers' teammates and Harris Teeter spent Tuesday afternoon packing Thanksgiving dinner bags for families in need at the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina.
"I think what Thomas is able to do with Kelly is fantastic just for us to come out here for an hour or two and just have the effect of putting these bags together and help the number of people that are going to benefit is awesome," teammate Luke Kuechly said.
8,000 people will be able to be fed due to the 2,000 bags filled on Tuesday.
"It's surreal because when you're walking down the assembly packing these bags, it seems like a small meal but when they open this bag and they have this meal at their table you're able to feed these families. That's just out of this world, people that aren't going to have meals and now suddenly have a meal for a holiday as special as Thanksgiving it makes our hearts just melt and we love helping," Kelly Thomas said.
