The Panthers Pride Rally scheduled for Friday has been cancelled due to a winter storm that could dump ice on the Charlotte region. The winter storm has the potential to cause power outages and hazardous roads.
“After consulting with our public safety partners, we believe this is the best decision for the safety of our players, fans and event staff,” said the Director of Communications for Charlotte Center City Partners, the group organizing the rally.
The Charlotte area could get about a quarter inch of ice, with Hickory, Lincolnton and Salisbury getting closer to a half inch of ice. Ice accumulation like this could cause wide spread power outages and bring down trees limbs. Ice on the roads would make for dangerous driving conditions.
Instead of a rally, Panthers fans are encouraged to show their support on social media using the hashtag #BlackFriday.
