CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - A pedestrian was hit and killed by a car early Thursday morning in southeast Charlotte, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.
The fatal crash happened around 6:40 a.m. in the 8200 block of E. Independence Blvd. Officers say the pedestrian was walking with the direction of travel, and out of the travel lanes.

As he was walking, he was hit by a 2009 Honda Pilot that drifted to the right. The driver, Kenneth Blake Crowder Jr., immediately stopped and called 911. Police say the roadway was dark and not lit.
CMPD, Charlotte Fire and Medic responded to the scene, and EMS officials pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Witness statements and road evidence led to Crowder being charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and failure to maintain a lane of travel.
Impairment and speed were not factors in this crash.
