CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - A man has been arrested after police said he struck and killed a pedestrian with his vehicle Monday night in east Charlotte.
Johnny Lee McCorbin, 35, is charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. The accident happened about 9:50 p.m. in the 2200 block of E. Independence Boulevard.
Upon arrival, police found a man, later identified as John Adam Wylie, 70, in the center of the road. He was pronounced dead on scene. Police said Wylie had been walking on the shoulder of the road when McCorbin's 2016 Hyundai Sonata drifted over and struck him.
McCorbin had stopped a short distance away from the scene. He was transported to CMC-Main with minor injuries and was screened for alcohol and drug use. He was subsequently arrested.
CMPD said excessive speed may be a factor in this case.
