Person shot by officer in Gaston County

- A person had to be taken to the hospital following an officer-involved shooting late Sunday night in Gaston County.

According to Gastonia Police, officers encountered an armed person near 401 S. Gray Street about 11:30 p.m. A shot was fired by an officer an occupant inside was struck, police said.

That person was taken to Caromont Regional Medical Center for treatment and was later released.

The N.C. State Bureau of Investigation in investigating the shooting.

The officer who shot the person has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of the investigation, which is standard practice.

No names have been released at this time.
