Pineville police officer killed in motorcycle wreck

- A Pineville Police Department Officer died from injuries he sustained in a motorcycle wreck on Friday.

Michael Stephens Williams, 56, of Waxhaw, died in the hospital at New Hanover Regional Medical Center early Saturday morning, according to N.C. State Highway Patrol.

Officer Williams was off-duty, riding a 96' Harley Davidson along U.S. 421 ramp on U.S. 74 when he lost control of his motorcycle and ran off the road just after 5 p.m. Friday, May 4.

Troopers said Williams was ejected from the vehicle when he struck a guardrail. He had been wearing a helmet. High speed or impairment are not suspected in this deadly wreck.

The Pineville Police Department released a statement on Saturday reading in part, "Officer Mike Williams served with us in a full-time capacity for 15 years and touched many lives in the hard work that he did as a police officer. He was a great husband and father to his family and cared deeply for everyone, always leaving things better then how he found them."
