Police: Alcohol and speed a factor in deadly Wilkinson Blvd. crash

- A deadly crash shut down a portion of Wilkinson Boulevard early Thursday morning, according to Charlotte Mecklenburg Police.

Officers responded to a single vehicle crash at the 3900 block of Wilkinson Blvd. near Rosemont St. around 12:24 a.m.

When officers arrived they found a 2014 Dodge Ram Pickup truck. The driver, Zachary Alan Eubanks was pronounced deceased at the scene by Medic. Alcohol and speed bother appear to be factors in the crash, according to CMPD.

Two passengers were taken to CMC by Medic with non-life threatening injuries.

While investigating officers discovered Eubanks was driving the truck inbound on Wilkinson when he ran off the right side of the road and clipped a utility pole.

The truck began to slide sideways, hitting another utility pole. The truck then overturned and hit both a metal box and metal light pole.

Eubanks was partially ejected, according to police.

The truck slid into a metal fence where it came to rest after striking a parked car in a car lot.

Wilkinson Blvd. near Rosemont St. will be closed until noon, according to Duke Power.

This crash is under investigation by the Major Crash Investigation Unit of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department. Any witnesses are being asked to call (704) 336-2677.
