Police: App student death investigation closed after 5 months

- Boone Police closed a five-month long investigation Tuesday involving an App State student's accidental drug overdose, according to investigators.

On Friday, September 25, Boone Police began an investigation into the death of 20-year-old John Bunch.

Police were called to an unattended death at an on campus apartment. He was found dead in his bed by friends, according to police.

After an investigation investigators suspected an accidental drug overdose to be the cause.

Bunch's cause of death was listed as, "Acetyl fentanyl and alprazolam toxicity."

“The loss of life is always tragic, but when we lose someone at such a young age it’s heartbreaking. Our thought and prayers go out to Mr. Bunch’s family and friends," said Police Chief, Dana Crawford.
