Police: Arrest made in northeast Charlotte homicide

- An arrest has been made in connection to the murder of a 29-year-old man in northeast Charlotte last month, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. 

Michael Jerome DeBerry Jr., 21, is charged with the murder of Philip Patrick Young Jr., police said. DeBerry was taken into custody Wednesday morning on Bullard Street. 

Young, 29, was found lying unresponsive in a doorway in the 500 block of Camrose Drive near a local church at 1:19 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, police said.

Witnesses had reported seeing Young bleeding. He was pronounced dead on scene by Medic. At the time, it was unclear how Young had died but police said the death was being investigated as a homicide. 

DeBerry has a criminal history. He was arrested on July 5, 2018 for carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a stolen firearm, and possession of marijuana paraphernalia. DeBarry was also arrested on July 25, 2018, 15 days after the murder, for carrying a concealed gun.
