CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - A police chase ended in a fiery crash on I-85 when a suspect lost control, hit a tree and was ejected from the car, according to Highway Patrol.
The Gaston County Sheriff's Office tells FOX 46 the chase started in Gaston County when officers tried to apprehend the suspect, who had warrants out for failure to appear in court in Cleveland and Mecklenburg counties, a warrant for robbery.
The suspect drove into Mecklenburg County and lost control of the car, hitting a large tree near the weigh station on I-85 North just before exit 27.
The suspect was ejected from the car before it was engulfed in flames. Medic says they were taken to CMC for life-threatening injuries.
