Police: Child dies in Lincolnton wreck

- Lincolnton police are continuing to investigate after a 1-year-old child died in a car crash on Friday.

Officers responded to a vehicle accident with injury around 3:05 p.m. along S. Generals Blvd. just north of Robin Road.

A 2006 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by Silas Hart, was traveling southbound on S. Generals Blvd. when he was hit in the rear by a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck driven by William "Karey" Jones, II.

Police said Harst was slowing down to move over to the shoulder of the roadway for a funeral procession when his vehicle was hit from behind.

Hart's wife and their 1-year-old daughter were in the car.

The female infant was severely injured in the crash and was unresponsive at the scene, according to police.

She was taken to CHS-Lincoln and airlifted to Levine Children's Hospital in Charlotte where she was later pronounced dead.

The investigation into the crash is still ongoing, and charges related to the case are pending.
