Police: Father who left child in car repeats crime

- A man charged last month after  leaving his child in his truck for more than an hour has been accused of committing the same crime, this time at a different location, police said.

Investigators arrested the man on Tuesday but they said a judge let him go before the second warrant could be served.

The Salisbury Police Department said they’re looking into how the miscommunication occurred in court and are working to track down the father who they said left his daughter alone in a car next to a filthy mess.

Keiyenne Mynx Hijin, who also goes by the name Geoffrey Roberson, left his 1-year-old child in the car while he went to go work out at Planet Fitness on February 3.

On Tuesday, investigators said someone recognized Hijin at Cloninger Ford on Jake Alexander Blvd. and they called police.

Detectives said when they arrived on scene they found Hijin’s daughter in the car, which was running with the windows down, sitting next to a toddler toilet that had waste in it.

“Especially being with the doors unlocked, windows partially down, anybody can just come in and take that child, so it was a dangerous situation for the child? Yes, the potential was there most definitely, and then with that was beside her the sanitary conditions weren’t very good either.”

Police arrested Hijin on the outstanding warrant for the first incident at Planet Fitness. They said a magistrate judge let him go on what’s called ‘a written promise’ before police could get the second warrant for the second case. Hijin later turned himself in, according to Salisbury police.

The public information officer for the Salisbury Police Department would not discuss the issue, stating they’re looking into whether there was a break down in communications.

Police said DSS was notified of both cases - the one on Tuesday and the one back in February.

The child’s mother picked up the child both times, according to investigators. The incident report lists Nashville, TN as Hijin’s address, but police said he’s been living with his mother in Salisbury.
