Police: Gastonia man arrested for attempted kidnapping of 12 year old

Gaston County Police arrested a Gastonia man on multiple charges including attempted kidnapping after they said he offered a 12 year old girl money and tried to grab her by the arm. 

The incident happened on Friday, March 11 in the 3300 block of Goble Street, just south of Gastonia. 

Investigators said Ricky Adams Townsend approached the young girl while she was riding her bike. Townsend reportedly offered her cash and tried to grab her. 

Townsend was arrested without incident during a traffic stop near Dallas while driving a black 2015 Dodge Dart.

He is charged with one count of Attempted Second Degree Kidnapping, two counts of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Juvenile, Simple Possession of a Schedule VI Controlled Substance (Marijuana), and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

He's currently being held in the Gaston County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
