LANCASTER, SC (FOX 46 WJZY) - Police have identified a man killed in Lancaster, left dead in the middle of the street.
47-year-old Terry Thompson was found shot to death at the intersection of Thomas and East Dunlap. No arrests have been made, and police are still investigating.
This murder is the second in Lancaster within three days.
"It's a hard feeling to express," said Lancaster Resident Conyet Witherspoon.
Colorful works of art illuminate the intersections of downtown Lancaster. But this week, the city feels dark.
"It's sad," said Witherspoon. "Very sad."
The shooting death of Thompson is the city's second homicide in three days. The other was on South York earlier this week.
"I just heard something and I thought it was something else," said one neighbor. "And come to find out, someone got killed."
Terry Thompson was found in the middle of the road, in an area of the neighborhood surrounded by vacant, boarded up homes.
"I was shocked," said Witherspoon. "My heart felt heavy."
Conyet Witherspoon was a friend of Terry's, and, like her neighbors, was shocked and saddened. Neighbors say these crimes are becoming much too common.
"It's scary," said Witherspoon. "It could've happened to anyone."
Having once lost a child herself, Witherspoon says she knows the pain and hopes things get better-- not any worse.
"Taking somebody's life-- there is no place for that," said Witherspoon. "It's sad-- my heart feels heavy for them and the family-- my condolences go out to them."
