Police investigating after driver robbed in uptown parking deck

- Charlotte Mecklenburg police are investigating after a man was robbed in a parking deck in uptown Charlotte.

A driver was making his way back to a parking deck on the 700 block of West Trade St. around 2:50 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20.

Police say when he got to the seventh floor he was robbed by two armed people. They took his wallet and ran off. He wasn't injured.

Driver Tianna Patterson uses parking decks in uptown, but she's skeptical of them.

“I’m always worrying there someone hiding behind the cars or something because there's not a lot of visibility especially when there's a lot of cars and places to hide,” she said.

The news is scary to her and other drivers we spoke with. Some are wondering how they can better protect themselves.

"Maybe pepper spray or knife, but if someone's got a gun what am I going to do about it?" one Charlotte resident said.

An online crime mapping service shows that in the past four weeks on the 700 block of W. Trade St., there have been two robberies, three reports of suspicious people outside and two instances of vandalism.

Police are still investigating the incident. The robbers have not yet been identified or caught.
