CMPD: Victim in Charlotte's 64th homicide identified

- UPDATE: The victim has been identified as Derrick Lee Banner, 26. The investigation is still ongoing.


The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating an overnight homicide that occurred in an area just north of uptown Charlotte. 

Officers were called to the 1400 block of Rosetta Street around 3 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12 for an assault with a deadly weapon. 

Upon arrival, CMPD located a man inside of a vehicle with an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on scene. His name will be released pending family notification, police said. 

Detectives are canvassing the area to determine whether there were any witnesses to this deadly shooting.  

This shooting marks the 64th homicide for the City of Charlotte this year.
