CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say they have made an arrest in connection to a 1995 rape cold case.
The rape happened on June 5, 1995 on Nations Ford Road. According to investigators, the 23-year-old survivor was walking when she was approached by three unknown armed mae suspects.
The men took money and jewelry from the survivor before one of the males, armed with a gun, sexually assaulted her, police said. The victim said two cars passed and not one stopped to help her.
After the assault, the suspects fled the scene and the victim was able to get to a phone and call police.
The victim was treated at Carolinas Medical Center and a sexual assault kit was completed. Police said the sexual assault kit was initially tested in 1995, and additional testing was completed on it in 2018 as a part of a federal grant CMPD received. DNA evidence confirmed Nathan Davis, 43, as the suspect, according to investigators.
Davis was arrested on January 9, 2019, and charged with first degree rape, first degree sex offense, first degree kidnapping, and robbery with a dangerous weapon. He was taken into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.
