Police make arrest in Lancaster Co. convenience store armed robbery

- The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office has made an arrest in connection to a convenience store armed robbery. 

Joshua Duane Smith was arrested with incident by Union County authorities at the home of a relative in Monroe around 3:30 p.m. Friday, June 3.

Police said Smith was still in possession of the Toyota Tundra truck, which had been reported stolen in Stallings, North Carolina on Thursday. 

Smith is being held on Union County charges relating to the theft of the truck.  It is undetermined when Smith will be transferred to the Lancaster County Detention Center to face the Armed Robbery charge. Additional warrants for charges relating to the robbery incident likely will be served upon Smith at a later time, police said. 

The armed robbery occurred Friday morning between 4:15 a.m.and 4:30 a.m. Police said a man went into the Buford Express Mart at the intersection of Pageland Highway and Rocker River Road holding what appeared to be a shotgun.

Police said Smith pointed the gun at the clerk and demanded money. He left the store with cash and cigarettes.

No shots were fired and no one was injured.
