CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - A man drove himself to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Steele Creek Division Office overnight and admitted to killing his girlfriend, police said.
Michael Duane Brown, 31, showed up at CMPD's police station at 1:40 a.m. Thursday, May 10 and told an officer that he had just killed his girlfriend in their apartment in the 10700 block of Point South Drive.
Officers headed to the apartment building, right down the road, where they found a woman, Whitney Jo King, 27, shot to death inside. There was also an infant inside the apartment who was not harmed.
Brown is charged with first-degree murder. He is currently being held at the Mecklenburg County Jail. Brown has no known criminal history.
Detectives were canvassing the area overnight to determine if there were any witnesses to this crime.
