Police: Man shot in chest during armed robbery

- One man was shot in the chest and another man punched in the face during an apparent armed robbery, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. 

The robbery happened at 4:55 a.m. Monday, July 24 at an apartment complex located in the 600 block of Archdale Drive. 

CMPD said two men were outside in the parking lot walking to their car when the robbery occurred. They said two Hispanic men approached them, at least one armed with a firearm. 

One victim was shot in the chest during the armed robbery and the other man was punched in the face, police said. During the shooting an occupied apartment was shot into and three vehicles that were in the parking lot were also shot with stray rounds. 

The man who was shot in the chest was transported to CMC in critical condition, police said. No one inside the occupied apartment was hurt. 

Police said the two victims did not know the two suspects. 

This is an open, ongoing investigation.
