BURKE COUNTY, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - A 20-year-old man has been arrested after stabbing another person in the chest, back and arm during an argument at Lake James, according to the Burke County Sheriff's Office.
The stabbing incident happened at 6:34 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29 at the Linville Boating Access Area at Lake James. Deputies were called to the area for reports of a man who had been stabbed in the back and chest area. The suspect had reportedly fled the scene in a gray or silver Toyota.
The 911 caller identified the suspect as Sammy Lee Keller, 20.
As deputies arrived on scene, they located Michael Collingwood sitting in the parking lot surrounded by several others who were attempted to provide him aid. Collingwood received several cuts to his front lower torso, back, and a deep cut to his right arm near the wrist, deputies said.
Collingwood told deputies that he came to the lake area looking for a family member when he and Keller exchanged words and Keller stabbed him.
Deputies located Keller after he called 911 asking for aid for his girlfriend who had a hand injury. He was taken into custody and charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
Collingwood was flown to CMC in Charlotte for treatment.
