Police: 1 person arrested in robbery, shooting at north Charlotte gas station

- The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has identified a man they've arrested in connection to a shooting and robbery that occurred early Monday morning outside a north Charlotte gas station.

Jequii Kennedy, 26, has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and possession of stolen property. He's currently being held at the Mecklenburg County Jail.

Kennedy is reportedly wanted by police in connection with an attempted robbery in Erie, Pennsylvania.

The armed robbery happened at 2:37 a.m. Monday, Sept. 18 at the Charlotte Travel Plaza Shell Gas Station at 4601 Sunset Road.

Upon arrival, CMPD officers found a man who had been shot in his legs. They said the man was transported to Carolinas Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The man had told CMPD he had just finished pumping gas and got back into his vehicle when he was approached by multiple people, at least one of which was armed with a handgun. The group of people then robbed and shot the man.

Some of the suspects left in vehicles while at least one person ran from the scene on foot. K-9 and patrol officers circulated the area and were able to locate Kennedy.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
