Car shot up in southeast Charlotte, 1 man injured

- A local man says he and his friend were shot at while driving in southeast Charlotte Tuesday afternoon.

Police say the incident occurred around 1:15 p.m. near the intersection of N. Wendover Rd. and Beal St.

The driver of the car had to undergo surgery at the hospital after suffering a gunshot wound to his stomach.

The second person in the car, the passenger, wasn't injured. He spoke to us about the scary moments that happened as they two were trying to turn onto Wendover Rd.

“I'm just a little shook right now,” the passenger told FOX 46.

The man, who didn't want to share his name, shared his story about how he and his friend were shot at Tuesday afternoon. He says, they don't know the person who fired at them.

The two men had just left the Family Dollar and were cutting through some businesses to get back on the road. That's when he says someone started firing at them.

Officers believe some those shots were fired outside of the Habitat for Humanity ReStore building, near the intersection at Beal St.

“He shot three times. He shot at the glass, at the door, and I was like ‘I'm going to die.”

The window was shattered, and the bullet holes struck the car in different areas. The two pulled over at a recreation center across from an apartment complex after the driver realized he’d been hit.

The passenger applied pressure to his friend's gunshot wound until police got there.

“That’s like my best friend. That's like my cousin. Like honestly, like he’s my shadow.”

Police officers are still trying to determine a motive and identify a suspect at this time. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers (704) 336-1600.
