Gastonia man faces murder charge in Mount Holly shooting

- A Gastonia man has been arrested on murder charges after a fatal shooting Wednesday night in Mount Holly.

Josiah Russ Philpott, 34, is facing a charge of second degree murder, according to the Mount Holly Police Department.

The call for the shooting came in at 8:16 p.m. Wednesday, March 29 in the 100 block of N Woodcliff Lane, according to Mont Holly police. When officers arrived they found a man with an apparent gunshot wound to his chest in the road. 

The victim has been identified as 35-year-old Christopher Dean Caskey. He was taken to Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia where he later died. 

Witnesses told police that the victim and suspect knew one another and that the incident appears to be related to a disagreement between the two.

Philpott was booked around 3:15 a.m. Thursday morning and is being held without bond.
