Police search for suspect in Statesville shooting

- The Statesville Police Department is actively searching for a man connected to a shooting incident that happened Tuesday afternoon that injured one person. 

The shooting happened at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, August 22 at the corner of Park and Bristol Drive. 

Upon arrival, officers found a 26-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to WFBMC for treatment.

Statesville police said the initial investigation revealed that the 26-year-old man was on a moped at the intersection when another man driving a red and black moped drove by and shot the victim. 

The suspect, identified as Craig Alan Blackwell, 24, continued to travel south on Park Dr. away from the area. Multiple officers searched the area, but Blackwell was not located.

Blackwell is currently wanted by police on charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, possession of firearm by felon, and discharging a firearm in the city.
