Police search for white truck involved in deadly southeast Charlotte hit-and-run

- The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is searching for a white truck with a loud exhaust in connection to a deadly-hit-run that happened in southeast Charlotte Monday night.  

The incident happened at 9:51 p.m. Monday, June 4 in the 8500 block of Idlewild Road. 

Upon arrival, officers found 21-year-old Harvey Lee Pettis IV in the roadway. Police believe Pettis was crossing mid-block on Idlewild Road to visit a friend when a white pickup truck struck him. 

The white truck fled the scene without rendering aid, calling 911, or giving any information. 

Police said the white pickup truck was last seen traveling southeast on Idlewild Road towards Margaret Wallace Road. Officers believe the white truck will have front end and possible headlamp damage. 

This investigation remains open and ongoing.
