"Serial child molester" accused of assaulting multiple children in Charlotte

- A man who has a significant transient history and was acting as a family's caregiver has been arrested for his involvement in the sexual assault of multiple children, police said. 

Angel Mario Guzman Lobo, 61, was arrested on Thursday, Dec. 14 and charged with 10 counts of indecent liberties with a child and 10 counts of first-degree sexual offense. 

CMPD said Lobo has a history of reportedly preying on children in Maryland, Ohio, and New York. They referred to Lobo as a "serial child molester." Detectives say Lobo admitted to his serial past during an interrogation.

"Thanks to the skill of detective Kee and talking to this guy, he opened up and gave us these other locations and other states and other victims," said Sgt. Jem Jones.

On Nov. 13, 2017 detectives were notified by patrol officers regarding an investigation concerning a sexual assault that involved a little girl. 

During the investigation, the victim, who is now 12-years-old, said Lobo forcibly fondled her on multiple occasions in 2014 and 2015. Detectives determined that Lobo had a significant transient history and would rent rooms from various people he met. 

"That's alarming, but that is his motive. He would gain their trust through mutual friends, rent a room he is kinda a transient guy," said Sgt. Jones.

CMPD said that Lobo was renting a room from a family in the 8400 block of Reames Road and became a caregiver to children, when the assault happened. During the investigation, detectives determined two additional children were sexually assaulted during the same time frame, however police said those charges are still forth coming. 

The Crimes Against Children Unit is working to determine if there are any additional victims.
