Police: Witness distracts armed robber to save elderly woman

- Police say an elderly woman is lucky to be alive after being forced against her will at knife point during a robbery Wednesday morning in Rock Hill.

The robbery happened about 8:10 a.m. in the 100 block of East Main Street in the parking lot near Wells Fargo Bank.

A woman in her 60’s told police that an unknown black man approached her in the alley between Wells Fargo and the Children’s Museum, pulled a knife to return her to her vehicle and demanded her purse. Officers say as the suspect was ordering the victim to walk with him to a nearby ATM to get more cash, another woman threw her keys at the man as she called 911.

The suspect then took off on foot down Main Street and was later apprehended entering the Rotunda at City Hall. Officers identified Danny Thomas Brown, 58, as the suspect.

Brown is being charged with armed robbery, kidnapping and possession of a weapon. He is being held at the Rock Hill Law Center. His bond has not yet been set.

Officers say no one was injured and that the victim’s property was recovered and returned to her after the incident.
