Police: Worker caught driving intoxicated, going the wrong way in construction zone

- A construction worker is facing multiple charges after NC Highway Patrol said he was caught driving intoxicated and traveling the wrong way in a construction zone.

Joaquin Grancho is charged with driving while intoxicated and driving while license revoked.

According to Highway Patrol, they received numerous calls about a vehicle heading northbound in the southbound lane, north of Sunset Road.

Other construction workers were able to stop the vehicle before the trooper arrived on scene. While talking to the worker, the trooper noticed the smell of alcohol of his breath and administered a breathalyzer.

Highway Patrol said the construction worker's license was already suspended for a previous DWI. He was arrested and charged with DWLR and issued a DWI. To the best of the trooper's knowledge, the construction worker was working at the time. His bond has been set at $1,000.
